65 Youths Complete Training on Pig Farming Through a Partnership Between Muyumbu Pig Breeding Farm, USAID Hanga Akazi, and RYAF
65 young people, including 14 women and 51 men from various districts, successfully completed training on November 21, 2024, that began on November 4, 2024. The program, focused on pig farming projects, was organized by Muyumbu Pig Breeding Farm Ltd in partnership with USAID Hanga Akazi and the Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF).
During the closing ceremony, Janvier Hakuzimana, RYAF’s District Coordinator, highlighted the opportunities in pig farming and RYAF's ongoing advocacy to help youth access financial institutions and other essential financial services. He stated:
"This training is a significant milestone that will enable young people to engage in pig farming, thereby enhancing agricultural and livestock productivity while improving their economic well-being."
Hakuzimana concluded by urging participants to put into practice the knowledge they gained during the training.
Jane Ntagara, a representative from USAID Hanga Akazi, congratulated the youth on completing the program and encouraged them to apply the skills they had acquired.
Emmanuel Harerimana, the Director of Muyumbu Pig Breeding Farm Ltd, emphasized the importance of integrity in all professional endeavors. He stated:
"The training materials you received are valuable resources. Make sure to read and apply them. Additionally, use your mobile phones as tools for research to continuously improve your farming practices."
The youth expressed their gratitude to the organizers, noting that they had gained valuable insights to start and improve their pig farming projects. They extended their thanks to Muyumbu Pig Breeding Farm Ltd, USAID Hanga Akazi, and RYAF for equipping them to become the next generation of pig farmers.
Niyonsaba Rosine, a participant and pig farmer, shared her experience:
"This training has been incredibly beneficial. I learned how to prepare pig feed and care for pigs after giving birth, which will greatly improve my farming practices."
This training exemplifies the power of collaboration between private sector actors, government, and development partners in empowering youth and increasing agricultural productivity in Rwanda.
