RYAF and Hinga Wunguke Sign MOU to Empower Youth in Agriculture and Boost Rwanda’s Food Security

On September 13, 2024, Rwanda youth in agribusiness forum and Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA) acting on behalf of Feed the Future Rwanda Hinga Wunguke Activity, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen youth involvement in agricultural productivity and enhance food security in Rwanda. This partnership aims to improve agricultural production while facilitating access to finance and markets for young farmers.

The collaboration between cultivating new frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA) acting on behalf of Feed the Future Rwanda Hinga Wunguke Activity, and Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum focuses on empowering youth to play a significant role in agricultural value chains thereby boosting food market systems, entrepreneurship and inclusion with a special emphasis on women, youth and persons with disabilities. This initiative aligns with Hinga Wunguke’s broader mission to increase smallholder farmers' income and resilience.

The partnership covers training, mentorship, and job creation opportunities for youth facilitating youth access to finance through tailoring financial products and partnerships with financial institutions. The two will support youth-led initiatives that enhance the availability and affordability of nutritious food in rural areas and engage district leaders to enable youth to access and use public land for agribusiness activities.

On behalf of Hinga Wunguke, Daniel Gies, Chief of the Party, signed this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), while Chairperson Sakina Usengimana represented RYAF.

The USAID-funded $ 29.7 million Hinga Wunguke aims to increase incomes and improve nutritional outcomes by sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and strengthening domestic consumption and markets for high-value and nutritious agricultural products. The five-year Hinga Wunguke (2023-2028) is implemented in 13 districts of Rwanda by cultivating new frontiers in Agriculture and market share associates.
