Innovating Poultry Farming in Rwanda: Isidole Niyigimpuhwe's Journey from Mechanical Engineer to Founder of TechPlus Trust Ltd

Isidole NIYIGIRIMPUHWE is the founder of TechPlus Trust Ltd, which helps poultry farmers by manufacturing egg incubators. His company is located in Kicukiro District Nyarugunga Sector, where his incubator starts with a capacity of 120 eggs, assisting farmers in obtaining high-quality eggs. This company began its operations in 2023 after Isidole completed his studies in Mechanical Engineering.

Isidole Niyigimpuhwe chose to become an entrepreneur after realizing that Rwanda still lacks specialized knowledge in egg incubation and poultry farming. His goal is to provide farmers with simple and efficient methods for raising chickens, with a particular focus on underprivileged families in rural areas. He started his company with four full-time employees and three part-time workers, thus creating jobs instead of seeking jobs, which had been his initial plan before becoming an entrepreneur.

Isidole emphasizes that manufacturing egg incubators has not only helped him improve his personal life but also contributed to the development of other people. He takes pride in no longer being part of the unemployed but rather being an employer, with a vision to continue advancing Rwanda’s poultry farming sector.

Niyigimpuhwe states that Techplus Trust Ltd's main objective is to innovate in poultry farming and boost egg production in the country. He mentions plans to establish hatcheries in rural areas where residents can easily access high-quality chickens. This, he says, will greatly help communities facing malnutrition issues, enabling them to have eggs at every meal.

Niyigimpuhwe said: "Our goal is to contribute to the fight against malnutrition in the country, ensuring that every household can access egg-laying chickens, thereby protecting children from malnutrition-related diseases."

Although Techplus Trust Ltd is gradually growing, Isidole notes there are still many challenges, especially in terms of capital. The machines they manufacture require significant financial investment to produce and scale up. Niyigimpuhwe is actively seeking partners to help the company continue its growth. He adds: "We are using the revenue from selling our incubators to expand our operations. We hope to collaborate with major partners to help us increase our capital, allowing us to reach more rural areas and improve the services we offer to farmers."

Isidole Niyigimpuhwe is one of the RYAF members dedicated to innovation and transforming the lives of Rwandans through the skills he acquired. Through Techplus Trust Ltd, he contributes to the development of poultry farming and egg production in Rwanda. Despite facing capital challenges, he remains optimistic about continuing to make an impact and achieving his goal of establishing hatcheries across the country, making it easier for residents to access chickens and eggs.
