Climate Resilience and Green Opportunities Training for RYAF Members

February 17-21, 2025  First cohort of  52 RYAF members including the secretariat participated in the training organized by Green Fund Rwanda through its project Green Gicumbi in collaboration with Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum 5-day training program titled Strengthening the Capacity of Youth Engagement in Green Opportunities (YEGO)  The goal of the training was to give youth essential knowledge and abilities in several sectors, such as Climate-smart agriculture, Sustainable land management, Agroforestry, Climate-resilient settlements, and Sustainable Forest management.

Jean Marie Vianney Rwiririza RYAF CEO expressed gratitude to Green Gicumbi for the excellent collaboration with RYAF and encouraged RYAF members to utilize the skills acquired during this training.

Mr. Kagenza Jean Marie Vianney, the Green Gicumbi Project Coordinator, reminded RYAF members that the knowledge they gain from this training should be applied in their communities to help residents understand climate change-related issues.

He urged them to develop innovative projects that provide solutions to climate change challenges by creating climate-resilient jobs. He also emphasized that their agricultural activities should be both climate-smart and environmentally friendly.

Green Gicumbi Project is structured around several key components: 

Watershed and climate-resilient agriculture, Sustainable forestry and sustainable energy, Climate-resilient settlements, Knowledge transfer, and mainstreaming 6-year project mainly focus on reducing vulnerability to climate change by enhancing the adaptive capacity of the targeted groups in the project intervention area as well as reducing their exposure to climate risks.

The project intervention area covers 9 Sectors that fall within Muvumba B sub-catchment comprise around 252 villages and targeting 150,000 and 380,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries, respectively. The sectors covered by the project are Rubaya, Cyumba, Kaniga, Mukarange, Rushaki and Shangasha, Manyagiro, Byumba, and Bwisige.
